Newham and 2012 Legacies

Substance were commissioned by the London Borough of Newham to provide a report on the potential impact of the London 2012 Olympic Games as a catalyst for change in the borough.

The report, Can the 2012 Act as a Catalyst to Turn Around Entrenched Deprivation in Newham?, was authored by Adam Brown and formed part of an Initial Scoping Study to Newham in April 2008.

Comprising literature review within an historical perspective, social data analysis and mapping as well as best practice review, the report made a series of recommendations about the general approaches required but also highlighted limitations that should be expected from any major event on issues as entrenched as long term poverty and deprivation.
