Supporters Direct Briefing Papers

Supporters Direct commissioned Substance in January 2011 to produce four briefing papers on different aspects of encouraging supporter community ownership in football.

The first two papers were launched at Portcullis House, Westminster in May at an event attended by 30 Members of Parliament; and the second two at Supporters Direct’s Annual conference in Chester in July 2011. the papers, which are available as free downloads are:

Briefing Paper 1: Developing Public Policy to Encourage Supporter Community Ownership in Football
Briefing Paper 2: Developing Football Regulation to Encourage Supporter Community Ownership in Football
Briefing Paper 3: Financing Supporter Community Ownership in Football
Briefing Paper 4: The Business Advantages of Supporter Community Ownership in Football

Dr Adam Brown led the project for Substance along with Substance Research Associate, Fiona McGee. Substance took the lead on producing the papers, but also worked with leading experts in the field – Dr. Mark James at Salford University Law School; Professor Guy Osborn at Westminster University Law School; Kevin Jaquiss a partner at Cobbetts LLP; Dr Annabel Kiernan at Manchester Metropolitan University; and Thea Longley at Baits, Wells Braithwaites LLP.

The work for Supporters Direct follows the Social Value of Football project commissioned by Supporters Direct from Substance which ran from 2008-2010. Further information and all reports from that project are available here
