In September 2007, Andy Burnham MP, the Secretary for State for Culture, Media and Sport launched the findings of the first annual Kickz report written by Substance.
Key statistics from the first report (which covers the period 2006/07) include:
* The programme target to engage 4,000 young people was exceeded as 7,000 were engaged between 2006 and 2007. The total now stands at 16,000.
* Over 2,300 positive outcomes were recorded, with examples ranging from gaining sport and football coaching qualifications, to completion of anti crime workshops.
* 521 young people (aged 16-25) volunteered at projects with 37% going on to gain employment.
* 37 young people went on to gain direct employment within the community departments of one of the initial 25 Kickz clubs
* Kickz forms part of local strategies to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour. In regions with the most Kickz projects running, crime reduction was five times greater on days when Kickz sessions took place.
